Farmer Suicides remain a national scandal reports the NCRB

Farmer Distress Impacts All Indians

Its official, over 30 farmers on average,
killed themselves each day in 2016:
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)
in November 2019 reported that over
11,300 farmers killed themselves in
in 2016. This works out to around
31 suicides every single day.

The report for 2015 (12, 600 suicides) was worse.
In 2014 there were 12,360 in 2014.
Overall, the data suggests that while farmer suicides
dipped by about 21% in 2016,
farm labourer suicides have risen by 10%
in the same year.

Maharashtra is the grisly winner with 15,356
suicides  between 2013 and 2018
(according to an RTI report). This is sadly 22.4 percent
of the 2016 all India total.

While Maharashtra had a 20% drop from 2015,
it continued to be the state with the
highest number of suicides and
2,550 self-inflicted deaths in 2016 (NCRB). With
1, 296 suicides in 2013, (fatalities lower)
2,039 suicides in 2014
3, 263 suicides in 2015 (all time high
(at least in the recent past).

    1. Thanks. Please share so that people understand the seriousness of the situation. If the government admits to 30 farmer suicides a day, try and imagine what the actual picture could be?
